Our journey with Richard and Beth started in 2017 with an initial damp enquiry, over the following 5 years we have developed an ongoing partnership, working together to improve and modify their home with their evolving lifestyle. This started with damp treatment, which progressed to external wall insulation on the front of the property and more recently a full home remodel to accommodate their growing family. This remodel included an extension, a full reroof, full external wall insulation and render finish to the back of the property. This is a great example of how we work alongside customers to continually move forward towards their goal in manageable stages, when each stage suits them, adapting their home as their needs change.

Mark contacted us looking for a solution to insulate his home without losing the characterful details. After discussing our options, we agreed on full external wall insulation as the most effective method. We were able to do this whilst maintaining the original features by applying brick slips (thin tiles which are applied on top of the insulation to give the appearance of bricks) to the lower area of the walls and restoring the striking Tudor boarding. Whilst external wall insulation can provide a complete make over or modernisation of a property, it can also be used subtly and sympathetically to improve the performance of a property without significantly changing the style or losing the original features.

Denise contacted us regarding external wall insulation, but during their initial appointment we discussed their plans and soon their project grew. This included insulation, a single-story extension to the kitchen including a new downstairs WC, an upgrade to the existing shower room and extensive work to the roof and chimneys. We like to think we may have also subtly influenced the colour choice for their new space!

Mike and Eleanor approached us looking for ways to improve the warmth in the living room in their Victorian house. They were conscious they didn’t want to change the overall appearance of the property, so chose to externally insulate the side gable wall and the rear or the property and keep the original brick finish to the front of the property. This approach maintained the period features whilst providing a thermal wrap for the less visible walls. To further improve the warmth in the living room we lifted the existing suspended floor and installed insulation underneath, providing the most effective method of draught proofing. The existing render on the rear of the property was in disrepair, so the inclusion of external wall insulation with a new high-performance render system fixed the render issues whilst fully upgrading the specification. We replicated white stone windowsills at the back of the house using off cuts of insulation to maintain the overall character throughout.
In this instance the use of internal insulation could have added additional warmth to the front of the property, if space and budget had allowed. Using a combination of external wall insulation and internal wall insulation is what we class as “hybrid wall insulation” and is particularly favoured in period properties where the appearance of the house needs to remain unchanged.
