HOME INSULATION

Insulation Explained

At Cobalt Carbon Free, we believe that home insulation is essential for creating a more comfortable living space. Insulation minimises heat loss through your walls, floors, and roof, helping your home retain warmth for longer. This not only enhances your energy efficiency and reduces energy bills but also ensures that your home remains cosy all year round. Investing in quality insulation makes a significant difference in your comfort and energy savings.

External Wall Insulation (EWI)

External Wall Insulation (EWI) involves adding insulating boards to the outside of your home, creating a thermal barrier that reduces heat loss, improves energy efficiency, and lowers energy bills. It’s particularly effective for homes with solid wall construction, such as those built before the 1920s, and helps reduce your carbon footprint.

Internal Wall Insulation (IWI)

Internal Wall Insulation (IWI) works by adding insulation to the interior walls of your home, helping to retain heat and enhance energy efficiency. It’s an ideal solution for properties with solid walls, especially when you want to preserve the home’s original external features.

Roofing/Loft

Around 25% of a home's heat escapes through an uninsulated roof, making roof or loft insulation an excellent way to boost energy efficiency and reduce bills. The method of insulation depends on how the space is used—over joists for storage or between and over rafters for living spaces. For hard-to-reach lofts or flat roofs, a "warm roof" method may be applied externally. Other factors, such as ventilation, damp issues, and water pipes, must also be considered when insulating a roof.

Floor

Floor insulation is essential for improving your home’s energy efficiency by minimising heat loss through the ground. Installing insulation beneath the floorboards or within the subfloor helps keep your home warm in winter and cool in summer, resulting in a more comfortable living environment. This type of insulation is particularly beneficial for homes with suspended floors, as it prevents draughts of cold air from entering and enhances overall thermal performance.

External wall insulation is a big investment, so I did a lot of research before deciding on Cobalt Carbon Free. I had the work done just over a year ago, and it’s been the best investment I’ve made on our house. Since then we’ve been through a winter and a summer, and it’s been like living in a different house. The temperature has been so much more stable. In the winter the house heats up so much faster, and holds the heat for a long time. And it has also stayed much cooler in the summer. And all our damp and mould issues have disappeared!
For anyone who has a house without a cavity wall, I would strongly suggest you get external wall insulation. And I’d highly recommend Cobalt Carbon Free to do that work.
